Center Point Art

Commissioned by Sara Story Design to photograph Joseph Awuah-Darko’s art installation as part of his residency at Center Point Art, TX.

Josephs paintings are interior landscapes, translations of visual diaries created in excel spreadsheets using colors to represent his mood. Monitoring his mental health during his travels. The color scales vary depending on which location the diary was created in, taking meaningful inspiration from the local aesthetic and culture.

Capturing these bold, colorful and high contrast works was a refreshing change from the more common neutrals found in interior design. Joseph was a delight to work with, an insightful collaborator and a well practiced model. When he asked me straight up what I thought of his work I was unable to articulate my thoughts and supplied a meaningless word salad as a response. But now after reflecting on his process and the meaning of the works I can truly say I find them inspiring and thought provoking.
